WWII Era German Army Leather Rifle Sling for the Mauser K98 Rifle – Very Nice Condition. Up for sale is a WWII Era German Army Leather Rifle Sling for the Mauser K98 Rifle. The leather is soft and supple, no crazing. It has the leather sling keeper and the stock piece. The leather has darkened with age, but still retains that rich dark brown color. There are no visible markings or dates. The thatched pattern is pretty much worn smooth. All the stitching is still intact, no fraying. Please see photos for condition and details. Up for sale, a Japanese Arisaka Type 44 Rifle Sling. From what I understand this sling was/could also be used on a Type 99. The buckle is steel and the button is brass. It has 10 holes for adjustment for the buckle. This hole appears to have been made after the fact by hand. See the ragged edges on the inside of the hole. The leather is in good condition. It is strong and supple with no tears. The surface show age appropriate wear. Dimensions of the sling are as follows. Give or take a 10th of an inch: Sling overall length: 41 1/2″ Sling width: 1 7/16″ Buckle inside dimensions: 1 1/2″ x 1″ Buckle outside dimensions: 2″ x 1 1/2″ Leather loops outside dimensions: 1 3/4″ x 3/4″ The characteristics of this sling and the research line up with a real genuine Arisaka sling, not a reproduction. Up for sale, a Japanese Arisaka Type 38 Leather Sling. This sling has a steel buckle and button. It has 2 buckle slots and one grouping of five and one grouping of three adjustment holes. One leather loop keeper. The kanji is still nicely visible. The character closest to the button has some wear. The full character is visible when the light shines on it (see pic). The leather is still strong and pliable. The surface is worn from use and the surface is flaking on the high wear areas where the buckle and button attaches. Dimensions of the sling are as follows.
