Original WWI Era US Army/USMC M1907 Leather Sling for the M1903 Springfield, M1918 BAR or M1917 Enfiled – Marked Chicago Belting Co. Inspector Initials – NICE Condition. The sling is marked Chicago Belting Co. Inspector Initials, no date. This sling has the correct WWI Blackened Brass hooks. The sling is used, see photo’s for condition. The sling has both leather keeper. The leather is soft and supple. There is some minor wrinkling on the surface of the leather. Some surface cracking, but no deep cracks. The leather has darken with age. The stitching is all tight and intact. This is an Original Functional WWI era Sling and would look great on a WWI era rifle. NOTE: this is a collectible item, suitable for a correct historic display. It is NOT recommended for actual use. This is the sling that was commonly used on the M1917 Enfield, the M1 Garand, the M1903 Springfield, the M1903A3 Springfield and the M1941 Johnson Rifles. Check out my other items. Indian War Era US Army Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Sling – 3rd Pattern – Original – Nice Condition. This is the 3rd Pattern Sling, with the narrow prong hook at one end and a brass stud loop at the other end. The sling is approximatley 1 1/4″ wide x 65″ long. The sling has the round holes. This sling is a single length, NOT made from salvage civil was musket slings that were sewen together. The leather is soft and supple. Some surface cracking and crazing on the surface of the sling. No deep cracks or crazing. No breaks through the leather. It has the original sling keepers. Still has the original rich dark brown color. There are no visible markings or dates on the sling. The sling is used, please see photo’s for condition. The age of the leather, will make the sling weaker than when it was new, and may not be able to support the weight of the weapon. I could not find any marks anywhere but I would say by the look and feel of this it is likely WW1 era. The smaller strap side is 24.5 inches lone with the total length (including fold) of the larger side at about 50 inches. Very thick and heavy leather intended for military use.
