Very hard to find a 75-year old sling in this condition. This leather sling was apparently un-issued and should be considered as, New Old Stock. We’ve had this on display in the museum for over 20 years. Leather color is very good,’BOYT-42′ stamp is clearly seen. Vertigris is present on brass fittings. Offered is an original Civil War era rifle/musket leather sling. Sling is complete with both loops and brass hook still attached. It is not marked that I could find. But, it does bear the initials “LD” and an carved on the sling (see photographs). Some heavy crazing and loss of finish to the leather surface but no cracks have progressed through the leather. The sling is still soft and pliable and could be easily added to a period firearm if done with care. I believe this sling is US made, but could be a European import of the era.
