Indian War Era US Army Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Sling – 5th Pattern – Original – Very Nice Condition. This is the 5th Pattern Sling, with the narrow prong hook at one end and a brass stud loop at the other end. The sling is approximately 1 1/4″ wide x 70″ long. The sling has the round holes. This sling is made from salvage civil war musket slings that were sewen together. The leather is soft and supple. Some wrinkling and minor surface cracks. No deep cracks or crazing. No breaks through the leather. It has the original sling keepers. Still has the original rich dark brown color. No visible markings on the sling. The sling is used, please see photo’s for condition. These slings were used on the M1 Garand, 1903A3, 03A4 Sniper Rifle, as well as other civilian applications. The long strap is 41 1/2 inches long and the short strap is 25 inches long. It has the steel claws and two sling keepers. One of the sling keepers looks to have been repaired. The finish on the leather shows wear but there are no tears or major cracks. I don’t see any reason that this sling could not carry an M1 Garand in its current condition. Put a little neatsfoot oil on it or saddle soap and it will be preserved for years. Get it while you can or risk being outbid by someone who wants it more. Please feel free to check out my other vintage parts.
