This one has been detail QC’d and oil conditioned with premium quality neatsfoot, to make it more flexible, supple, and easier to install. That application will also prolong the life of this very sturdy 12-ounce premium leather. The crosshatching is an accurate surface, and almost all service versions were prepared with this pressed-in pattern A similar sling was used on the WWI Karabiner, the K. 98AZ, one of which is shown in a colorized imaged here with a 1918 storm trooper. These are NOT correct for that rifle, but WILL function and allow the firearm to be safely carried. Of course, late in their lives, the K. 98AZ specimens still in service DID use this version of the strap. There is no maker’s mark or date on here. Typical crosshatched leather, very sturdy keeper stop “froschen”, keeper, and “adjuster” or “buckle” an incorrect term but they were often called that! Rare originals are TOO VALUABLE to actually tote a heavy rifle.
