Original and very nice WWII Japanese leather sling for the Arisaka Rifle. This sling was recently taken off a beautiful Vet bringback Type 38 Arisaka Carbine. This sling was designed to be used on any Arisaka Rifle (both Type 38 & 99) Rifle or Carbine. The sling remains extremely sturdy, is not age cracked, and remains very pliable in condition. This is a vintage Eubanks, Boise, Idaho full leather, basket weave rifle sling. It is in excellent used condition, and comes with Quik-Detach swivels, which are in fine condition. Pioneer continued operations until 1972. So, this was made between 1950 and 1972. There are no stains, and no damage. No cracking of leather, no torn, or even feathered, stitches. The brass holders are excellent, with no oxidation (green gunk). The adjustment loop is as new. Eubanks/Pioneer went to the extra step of stitching a full-length leather backing strip on the inside of the sling. This ensured the sling would remain flat over the shoulder. Most other sling makers of the era did not do this, and over time, the shoulder area of the sling would bend into a “U” shape, which would dig into a narrow point between the clavicle and shoulder, and hurt like hell! No need to ask me how I know this… A rifle with this sling could be carried all day in comfort. The only evidence of use is at the lower adjustment area, which would be near the rifle butt swivel. That is where a hunter would hold the sling, steadying the rifle while hiking (hunters used to hike, now they sit). At that area, there is light darkening from moisture, but no cracking or splitting. This sling will last another hundred years if taken care of. Current length is 31. It can be adjusted between 29″ and 34″, overall.
