An excellent custom leather rifle sling by G. William Davis & Son. It is from the Walnut, California, period but is not marked. The sling looks little used. There’s a little verdigris (the green waxy substance that forms on some metals) on the edges of some of the brass hardware. This is normal, whether the piece is used or just stored. Otherwise, there’s no scars or wrinkles to the leather. There’s some light scuffs on the thin strap from contact with the buckle. An application of leather dressing. It’s a cobra-style sling, padded leather, with buckskin decoration on the shoulder and on the keeper. The “M” monogram is gold-colored metal and nearly flush with the leather. The sling length is adjustable from about 27 inches to about 33 inches, shorter than most. The keeper is hand-sewn, not stapled. The adjustment strap is 1 wide and the widest part of the padded section is 3 inches. The small leather knife/accessory case at the bottom (butt) end of the sling is 3 inches deep and about 1-1/2 inches wide. A top-quality custom sling from Davis. The “D” monogram is silver-colored metal and nearly flush with the leather. The sling length is adjustable from about 27 inches to almost 33 inches, shorter than most. This may have been made for a lady. The adjustment strap is 1 wide and the widest part of the padded section is 3 inches. The small leather knife/accessory case at the bottom (butt) end of the sling is 3 inches deep and about 1-1/2 inches wide. A top-quality custom sling from Davis.
