Sling is in excellent NOS condition with visible ink stamps. Leather is supple, strong, and flexible. This was clearly stored in proper conditions so as not to be dried out or damaged in a myriad of other ways over the past 80 years. Spanish-American War Era US M1898 Leather Sling for the Krag Rifle – Original – NICE Condition. Up for sale is a Spanish American War US M1898 Leather Sling for the Krag Rifle. This is the later sling designed specifically for the M1898 Krag Rifle. It has a single brass hook with a loop end and brass stud. The leather is soft and supple. There are surface cracks in the leather, see photos. No tears in the leather. It has both leather sling keepers and the brass stud. The sling is used, please see photos for condition. This sling over 125 year old may not be strong enough to support the weight of the rifle. Attempting to use this sling to actually carry a rifle will probably break the sling. Description: this is a vintage, authentic, World War One USGI, M1907 leather rifle sling. This sling is approximately 104 years old! This is the real deal. This was a US government issue leather sling for World War 1. This is not the actual item you will receive; you will get one just like the photo. This sling will have one or two keepers. I have read that to gauge the authenticity of items like this, the brass keepers(frogs) are very important. You’ll notice close-up photos, and they look like they are connected with copper rivets. I bought this item from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) who received it from US Army warehouses, probably attached to a rifle. The slings were detached, folded carefully and put in storage. I can show a copy of my receipt upon request. Provenance is: US Government, to the CMP, to me. It was in storage, possibly, for 50 years or more! There are no tears evident. This is for a museum piece rifle, or for a collector to put on their World war one M1903, M1903A3, or M1 Garand World War 2 rifle. BONUS: included free with this sling are some National Rifle and Pistol Match memorabilia from Camp Perry, Ohio. This will be in the form of stickers and/or a commemorative hat pin.
