This is a ww2 production Soviet M91/30 leather rifle sling. It is a real WW2 Russian item, and not a post-war made sling, or a copy made in another part of europe. It has the distinctive “S” stitching found almost exclusively on Soviet leather slings from 1930 to 1945. These early slings are VERY hard to find due to a high attrition rate. They were prone to rot, wear, tear and other damage after prolonged outdoor use through 4 years of war. This example has a riveted keeper and dog collars with riveted fasteners. The manufacturing date stamp is weak, but the last digit in the year is 5. So it’s either a 1935 sling with non-typical riveted collars and keeper, or it was made as the war was ending in 1945 with a pre-war pattern sling body but late-war keeper and collars. The original pre-war slings are identical to this one, but the keeper and dog collars would have been stitched and likely not riveted. These is a vintage piece 70 or more years old. CUSTOM HANDMADE GENUINE LEATHER, HAND TOOLED RIFLE SLING. IT IS LINED WITH REAL PIG SKIN SWADE LEATHER AND HAS A HAND TOOLED PATTERN. Made in Idaho, USA. Made from quality veg-tanned leather and lined with natural pig skin suede leather. The sling loop keeper is also handmade with finished edging and riveted for extra strength. The sling is hand tooled, hand finished, and sewn. I have been a leathersmith for over 30 years and I don’t skimp on materials or quality. Every part of this rifle sling is finished, all edges are finished and it comes with Brass metal screw posts. This is a quality product. It has multiple adjustments for proper placement at 2 inches increments. The taper design on main body is very comfortable and ranges from approximately 2-3/4 inches at top to 2″ inches at bottom of main body which is 16 3/4″ inches in length. Both the upper and lower straps are 1 wide to accommodate gun swivels. The approximate overall length is 44 1/2 inches it adjusts from 32 inched to 41 inches in length. This is a very comfortable sling. The pig suede leather offers perfect non slip all-weather qualities. I started making these rifle slings over 30 years ago for myself and they are still in great shape. You will be able to hand down this rifle sling to the next generation. Orig WW1 1918 dated Model 1907 leather rifle sling.. From the estate of a very high end collector of militaria from all wars…. This nice old sling was not sitting on a rifle for years too tightly so it does not have serious stress cracks… Looks to have maybe been treatd years ago…. Both leather keepers are preent…. Both brass claws have all rivets in place and solid… Can’t make out the maker for sure but date is clearly 1918…. Leather of course does have wear spots… A great sling for display but as they do not make em anymore I don’t recommend hard field use…. These slingsa are correct for the 03 springfield rifle as well as the Model 1917…. They were also often used on into ww2 so is absolulely correct for that Garand too! Any questions just shout.
