Padded with closed cell foam with a golden brown suede pad cover. Has a generous 12 inches of adjustment. 100% cut, carved and sewn by hand.
Vintage hand-tooled leather rifle sling featuring an intricate Western desert scene and bold carved “ARIZONA” lettering. This piece displays detailed storytelling typical of mid-century Western leathercraft and appears to be handmade and signed DVP. The carved imagery includes a covered wagon pulled by a four-horse team, a revolver, wagon wheel, cactus, desert plants, and a coiled snake. The tooling demonstrates impressive craftsmanship and layered composition. Notably, the wagon scene depicts four horses rendered in perspective, with the rear pair partially emerging from behind the front horses-an advanced design detail rarely seen in basic souvenir leatherwork. The piece also shows skilled leatherworking techniques including beveled carving, background matting, and stamped texturing, such as the star-stamp pattern used to create the snake’s scaled surface. The leather remains supple and flexible, not brittle, and shows a rich natural patina consistent with age. Wear is minimal and appropriate for a vintage piece. The top leather is high quality full grain Italian genuine real cow leather. The backside genuine leather is brown, medium-soft for more comfort. The two leathers are stitching up with strong thread. The leather shoulder sling is about 10-11 oz (4,0-4,4 mm) thick. The pictures are hand tooled (hand engraved) with metal craft tools and hand painted with American professional leather dyes. This rifle sling is genuine veg tanned tooling cowhide. Here in Minnesota it’s one of my best sellers, I’ve been carving leather for over 49 years, it’s hand carved, dyed, antiqued, and hand stitched. The main leather is the best leather, Hermann Oak. There is padding in the backside of the design, and I HAND STITCHED the suede leather over the padding for more comfort for shoulders. The main color of sling is a medium tan brown color. There’s a leather loop, and three black oxide color metal screw posts. Any hunter will love this sling. 100% made by my hands. About 2-3/8″ widest part, about 1-1/8″+ strap. Length adjustable from ends of clips about 29″ to 33″ long. Clips go with it. I’ll be making more with other designs in the near future.
