There is some minor wrinkling and cracking on the surface of the leather. The leather has darken with age, but still retains most of that rich dark brown color. The stitching is all tight and intact. The Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) was developed for the US Army late in WW1, and proved its effectiveness in the climactic battle of the Argonne Forest. With a few improvements during the interwar period, the BAR soldiered on into WW2, and was heavily used by Marines in the Pacific. A specially designed leather sling was issued to BAR gunners during WW2, which was longer and featured three hooks as opposed to the two on the standard M-1907 rifle sling. This US Army USMC Marine WW2 HICKOK 3 PRONG LEATHER BAR SLING is in excellent condition, with some light scattered drying, darkening, and surface cracking, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the sling is in excellent shape, with no other damage to the elegant brown leather construction. Most interestingly, it boasts the classic three “gun metal gray” finished metal sizing “claws”, sports a matching metal central hinge, and is stamped at one interior end with its maker and date, “HICKOK / 1943″. Original WW II Era leather rifle sling for the Garand or Springfield rifles. It has no legible markings although on the surface near one of the hooks, with a magnifying glass, I think there is a “3″ in the area where a date would be. I could not make this come out in the photos. The hooks are steel. The sling is in very good condition. There are no stains or tears or scuffs. There are marks from use and wear.
