Indian War Era US Army Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Sling – 4th Pattern – Marked: Rock Island Arsenal – Original – Excellent Condition. This is the 4th Pattern Sling, with the wide prong hook at one end and a brass stud loop at the other end. The sling is approximatley 1 1/4″ wide x 65″ long. The sling has the oval holes. This sling is made from a single length of leather, NOT the salvage civil was musket slings that were sewen together. The leather is soft and supple. No deep cracks or crazing. No breaks through the leather. It has the original sling keepers. Still has the original dark brown color. The sling is very faintly marked: Rock Island Arsenal. The sling is used, please see photo’s for condition. The age of the leather, will make the sling weaker than when it was new, and may not be able to support the weight of the weapon. Handcrafted rifle sling, made by Seelye Leather Works. Hand tooled, made from veg-tanned cow (embossed Alligator) and backed with American Bison. The sling is padded, adjustable, and has brass chicago screw fasteners. The sling starting length is 30 1/2″ long and adjust out to 33″ long. The sling also has a US Army concho accent.
