Offered is an original old WWI vintage Model 1907 Leather Adjustable Rifle Sling. This old sling is in good used condition but it has been stored for years and the leather is a little dry and stiff. There is some surface cracking on the leather but I don’t see any cracks that are very deep and it probably would still be plenty strong enough to use as a sling however I will sell it as a display piece just to be safe. It has a good maker mark stamped on it and is dated 1918. The brass hook ends have some green verdigris on them which should clean right up but I leave that to the new owner. Both of the leather keeper loops are present and in good shape. The worst flaw I can see is that it has had a rack number painted on it at some point in the past in white paint. I don’t know if this could be removed or not? With some elbow grease and rejuvenating oil this old sling should make a nice addition to an old WWI rifle display. In this case a picture is worth a thousand words! Thank you for looking and Good Luck! Orig WW1 1918 dated Model 1907 leather rifle sling.. From the estate of a very high end collector of militaria from all wars…. This nice old sling was not sitting on a rifle for years too tightly so it does not have serious stress cracks… Looks to have maybe been treatd years ago…. Both leather keepers are preent…. Both brass claws have all rivets in place and solid… Can’t make out the maker for sure but date is clearly 1918…. Leather of course does have wear spots… A great sling for display but as they do not make em anymore I don’t recommend hard field use…. These slingsa are correct for the 03 springfield rifle as well as the Model 1917…. They were also often used on into ww2 so is absolulely correct for that Garand too! Any questions just shout. M1 Garand/M1907 Springfield leather sling from World War 1 and 2. The sling is 36 1/2 long. The second piece of the sling is approximately 22 long. The sling is stamped 1515. There looks to be the remnants of a gold embossed stamp next to the number. Sling shows normal wear/tear due to age with some cracking and other age related defects. Sling is in two separate parts. I would consider for use in display but as I’m no expert I’ll leave that up to the new owner if they want to use in support of a rifle. This sling was shown to members of a local gun shop and several re-enactors who believe it to be WWII. I have also been told this is a 1960′s aftermarket sling by an eBayer. Either way it is a vintage sling. Normal wear and tear associated with age. The item “WW2 World War I Garand M1907 Springfield rifle leather sling” is in sale since Friday, October 18, 2019. The sling is faintly marked with the inspector initals at the tip of the sling. There is also an extremely faint Rock Island Arsenal marking, barely visible. Used original WWII M1907 leather sling used on the Garand, 1903, 1917, trench shotguns and whatever else it would fit. I don’t see any makers marks but has steel buckles putting it around 1942-44 manufacture and has both keepers. It can use a little leather conditioner but it’s all there with no bad cracking or splits and would look great on a period rifle. Very good looking sling overall. This is an original leather sling from a Krag or Trapdoor. This sling type can and was used on other rifles up to 1907 and beyond. It has very good brass hardware and good to very good leather. The keeper stitching is very strong as is the section that holds the two sling leather pieces together. The brass button has some green tarnish. The frog is securely attached and has the 1st model legs which are thinner than the later frogs. Five frog holes in from the brass button, there is a crack. This crack may have been repaired but it may be weak. Three frog holes below the sewed section, there is a crack. The dark section looks a little weak due to the feel and surface cracks. This probably won’t hold the weight of a rifle but would be perfect for display. Adding a leather section on the backside of the cracks would strengthen the sling. The leather has medium and darker brown colors. The medium brown areas have a combination of smooth and surface wrinkles and the darker area has some surface wear, hairline cracks and some surface cracking. The leather is soft and pliable. It measures approximately 68 inches. The backside of the leather looks very good. The tip is stamped with what looks like ” G W “. I will be posting more of these slings. I removed from sling from a Springfield Trapdoor. This would be ideal for a vintage Springfield. It appears to be from that same vintage, but I’m not certain. The leather shows dry cracking but nothing out of the ordinary for this age. No markings that I could find on it. The sling is 1. Parts Questions and Requests. This would include fitment, period correct installation, additional pictures, etc. I would love to help you in any which way I can! Please be certain that all vintage parts are installed correctly and safely. We recommend a visual inspection and installation by a qualified gunsmith to assure utmost safety.
