Sling comes brand new in plastic. Due to age the leather does appear to show minor cracking running throughout the sling but it does not affect the sling’s usability, view pictures. Post-WWII Era German Army Leather Sling for K98 Mauser Rifle – Original – Unissued Condition. The leather is in Unissued condition. It shows no evidence of prior usage. The leather is soft and supple. It has the cross thatched pattern in the leather. No cracks or crazing in the leather. There is an ink stamp on the rear of sling “Made in Germany”. Our only discovery at an otherwise promising estate sale yesterday was this sling, found of all places in a 3. The sling appears to have not been issued as there is really no wear and no evidence of the claws being in the adjustment holes except one pair on one section. The markings BOYT -42- are excellent. The sling has never been oiled. Very heavy, strong leather. Just a slight amount of verdigras on the brass rivets holding the steel hooks. This is as original as it gets. This sling was pulled directly out of a crate. It has never been issued and aside from a bit of dust and very very minor verdigris, this sling is just as it would have been in 1944. It has never been oiled.
